Colonic necrosis in the hemolytic uremic syndrome

A previously healthy 14-year-old male survived extensive colon resection and ileostomy for acute colonic necrosis. The diagnosis of hemolytic uremic syndrome was made and intensive postoperative care was required. He made a complete recovery.
