Summary

Primary pineal malignant melanoma is a rare and aggressive brain tumor. This case study details the treatment of a young patient with this rare neoplasm, including radiation and chemotherapy.

  • Primary pineal malignant melanomas are an exceptionally rare form of primary central nervous system melanoma.

  • A case report of a 20-year-old female diagnosed with primary pineal region malignant melanoma.
  • The patient underwent endoscopic biopsy and received adjuvant therapy, including stereotactic and whole-brain radiation, and Temodar(R).
  • Refractory intracranial pressure (ICP) necessitated a ventriculo-peritoneal shunt.

Findings:

  • This case highlights the aggressive nature of pineal malignant melanoma.
  • Multimodal treatment including radiation and chemotherapy was employed for disseminated disease.
