Summary

The Physiological and Operative Severity Score for the Enumeration of Mortality and Morbidity (POSSUM) overestimates morbidity in elderly gastric cancer patients undergoing gastrectomy. A modified POSSUM equation accurately predicts postoperative morbidity in this population.
