We describe a rare case of a calcified endobronchial leiomyoma, a benign airway tumor, found in the left main bronchus. This finding highlights the diverse presentations of these uncommon respiratory tract neoplasms.

Area of Science:

  • Pulmonology
  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Endobronchial leiomyomas are rare, benign neoplasms originating from smooth muscle tissue.
  • These tumors typically present as solitary lesions in the trachea or bronchi.

Observation:

  • A case of calcified endobronchial leiomyoma in the left main bronchus is presented.
  • Computed tomography (CT) revealed a well-defined, calcified, polypoid mass with a broad stalk.

Findings:

  • The tumor's location in the left main bronchus is unusual.
  • Calcification within the leiomyoma is a notable characteristic.

Implications:

  • This case expands the known spectrum of airway leiomyoma presentations.
  • Accurate diagnosis requires integrating imaging findings with histopathology.
