Methods of Documentation I: Source-Oriented Records

Source-oriented records, or SOR, are medical record-keeping organized by the data source. The SOR system was first developed in the mid-1900s to organize the growing patient data in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
In an SOR, each discipline involved in patient care maintains a separate medical record section. This record-keeping method enables easy tracking of patient progress and ensures healthcare staff have access to up-to-date information.
Key Attributes include the following:
Psychosurgery01:30

Psychosurgery

Psychosurgery, the surgical alteration or permanent removal of brain tissue to alleviate severe psychological conditions, stands as one of the most radical and controversial treatments in the history of mental health care. Its development and application have evolved significantly, marked by dramatic shifts in scientific understanding and ethical perspectives.
Historical Development of Psychosurgery

Urinary Tract Calculi VI: Surgical Management

Procedures for Kidney StonesMedical intervention is necessary when kidney stones or renal calculi are too large to pass spontaneously (typically greater than 5 millimeters) when stones are accompanied by symptomatic infection (such as fever or pyelonephritis), when they impair kidney function, or when they cause persistent symptoms like severe pain, nausea, or urinary retention. Additionally, patients with only one kidney or those who cannot be treated with medical management also require...

Summary

Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) offers a novel, minimally invasive approach by combining surgical and endoscopic expertise. This article explores the benefits and drawbacks of developing NOTES as a distinct medical specialty.

Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology and Surgical Innovation

Background:

  • Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) is emerging as a significant advancement in minimally invasive procedures.
  • It represents a collaborative effort between surgeons and gastrointestinal endoscopists, leveraging new technologies.
  • NOTES aims to perform surgical interventions through natural body openings, reducing external incisions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES).
  • To assess the potential of NOTES as a specialized field within medicine.

Main Methods:

  • Review of potential applications for NOTES, including endoscopic mucosal resection, small tumor excision, and peritoneal access.
  • Conceptual analysis of the integration of surgical and endoscopic techniques.
