Abstract:
The concept of role is an important one and an issue which should be more often addressed within the so called high technology areas. The unique environment within specialist critical care units means that nurses are frequently in danger of becoming pseudo medics. The intention in this paper is to explore the issue of nurses' role--traditional, extended/expanded and futuristic from an intensive care perspective.
