Post-polio syndrome (PPS) can emerge decades after paralytic poliomyelitis. This case highlights new fatigue, weakness, and pain in a patient 35 years post-infection, confirmed by electromyography.

Observation:

  • A 40-year-old patient, 35 years after paralytic poliomyelitis, presented with new symptoms.
  • These included fatigue, muscle atrophy, dyspnea, gait difficulties, and joint/muscle pain.

Findings:

  • Electromyography revealed injured anterior horn neurons in the spinal cord.
  • Evidence of reinnervation was also observed during muscular tests.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the long-term neurological consequences of poliomyelitis.
  • Early diagnosis and management of post-polio syndrome are crucial for patient quality of life.
