Abstract:
In the period 1993-2000, we treated 76 children with Perthes' disease. The method of treatment was selected on an individual basis, depending on the child's age, the extent of necrosis in the epiphysis, and the degree of its deformation. In children up to 6 years of age we preferred conservative treatment, while surgery was the method of choice for children aged 6 years or older. In children 6-8 years we performed Salter osteotomy, while in children older than 8 method of choice was roof arthroplasty using Staheli's method. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used to support the choice of treatment modality.
