Background:

  • A 78-year-old male patient with a history of bladder cancer presented with an incidentally discovered 10 mm hypervascular right renal tumor on computed tomography (CT).
  • Enhanced CT indicated a hypervascular lesion at the lower pole of the right kidney with no signs of metastasis.

Findings:

  • The preoperative diagnosis was renal cell carcinoma (cT1aN0M0), leading to a partial nephrectomy.
  • Postoperative histopathological examination confirmed the tumor to be a renal adenoma, a benign entity.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the difficulty in differentiating renal adenomas from renal cell carcinoma based solely on imaging characteristics.
  • Accurate preoperative diagnosis is crucial for appropriate patient management and avoiding unnecessary surgical interventions for benign renal tumors.
