Background:

  • Prostatic abscess is an uncommon condition with diverse clinical presentations.
  • Staphylococcus aureus can cause severe systemic infections, including prostatic abscess and subdural empyema.

Observation:

  • A 51-year-old male presented with symptoms suggestive of prostatic abscess and subdural empyema.
  • Diagnosis was established through clinical examination, digital rectal examination, computed axial tomography, and transrectal ultrasonography.

Findings:

  • Transrectal ultrasonography-guided needle aspiration of the prostatic abscess was performed.
  • The patient received conservative treatment with antibiotics and urinary diversion, leading to clinical resolution.

Implications:

  • Early clinical suspicion and aggressive management are vital for diagnosing and treating prostatic abscess.
  • Transrectal ultrasonography is a valuable tool for both diagnosing and draining prostatic abscesses.
  • Identifying the etiological agent through culture guides specific antibiotic therapy.
