Rapid-cycling manic-depressive illness following subarachnoid haemorrhage

The case of a young man who developed a remarkably regular and rapid cyclical affective illness following a subarachnoid haemorrhage is reported. A CT scan showed damage restricted to the brain-stem. The illness proved resistant to a variety of agents; carbamazepine and lithium combined proved effective.
