    Abstract:

The whole body of the giant Brazilian enteropneust, Balanoglossus gigas, shows an accumulation of iodine, but theconcentration in the hepatic region is 854.7 percent higher than it is in the proboscis, where the amount of iodine is the lowest. Such an iodine concentration has not yet been detected in any other enteropneust or protochordate.
