Summary

Transforaminal percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (TPELD) is a safe and effective minimally invasive procedure for lumbar disc herniation (LDH). This study found an 89% success rate in patients with leg pain unresponsive to conservative treatment.

  • 89% of patients achieved excellent or good outcomes.
  • Mean follow-up was 8 months; average patient age was 38 years.
  • Low complication rate: 4.5% required open surgery, 6% experienced temporary dysesthesia; no major neurovascular injuries or deaths.
  • Conclusions:

    • TPELD is a minimally invasive, safe, and effective treatment for soft contained or noncontained contiguous LDH.
    • Successful outcomes were achieved in a high percentage of patients.
    • The procedure demonstrated a favorable safety profile in experienced hands.
