Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Mycology
  • Infectious Diseases

Background:

  • Mycotic keratitis is an infection of the cornea caused by fungi.
  • Pseudallescheria Boydii is a rare fungal pathogen implicated in ocular infections.
  • Previous reports of Pseudallescheria Boydii keratitis are limited, with only 13 cases documented.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with a rare case of mycotic keratitis.
  • The causative agent was identified as Pseudallescheria Boydii.
  • The infection was challenging to treat due to the rarity of the organism.

Findings:

  • This case represents the first successful treatment of Pseudallescheria Boydii keratitis.
  • Topical miconazole was utilized as the therapeutic agent.
  • The treatment regimen led to a positive clinical outcome.

Implications:

  • Topical miconazole is a viable treatment option for Pseudallescheria Boydii keratitis.
  • This finding expands treatment strategies for rare fungal corneal infections.
  • Further research into Pseudallescheria Boydii ocular infections is warranted.
