Summary

This study investigated body temperature changes after meals in normal weight and overweight men. Overweight individuals showed a blunted skin temperature response, suggesting altered dietary thermogenesis in obesity.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between body temperature and energy balance in relation to obesity.
  • To compare the postprandial (after meal) body temperature response in normal weight versus overweight adults.

Main Methods:

  • 22 adult males (11 normal weight, 11 overweight) had oral and skin temperatures measured over two days.
  • Measurements were taken fasting and after a standardized meal (45% of daily intake).
  • Dietary intake was monitored for a week prior to measurements under controlled microclimatic conditions.
