Background:

Leiomyomatosis peritonealis disseminata (LPD) is a rare condition involving benign smooth muscle cell proliferation.
It typically affects premenopausal women, suggesting hormonal influences in its pathogenesis.
Macroscopically, LPD can be mistaken for peritoneal carcinomatosis.

Observation:

A case of LPD is presented in a 40-year-old woman.
The patient underwent surgical intervention.
The condition is often asymptomatic, with diagnosis confirmed histologically.

Findings:

Microscopic examination is crucial for diagnosing LPD.
Less than 100 cases of LPD have been documented globally.
The subperitoneal nodules are composed of benign smooth muscle cells.

Implications:

Accurate diagnosis of LPD is essential to differentiate it from malignant conditions.
Understanding the hormonal role may guide future management strategies.
Increased awareness can improve recognition of this uncommon entity.
