Summary

Foveolar hyperplastic changes after gastrectomy correlate with increased gastric mucosal cell proliferation. Bile reflux may drive this heightened activity in the gastric stump, impacting healing and regeneration.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the relationship between gastric hyperplastic changes and mucosal proliferative activity.
To determine if increased 3H-thymidine uptake correlates with hyperplastic changes post-gastrectomy.

Main Methods:

Nineteen rats underwent either Polya gastrectomy or Roux-en-Y biliary diversion.
Histology and 3H-thymidine uptake were assessed and compared between groups.

Main Results:

Polya gastrectomy group showed higher thymidine uptake and hyperplastic changes than Roux-en-Y group.
