Summary

Recombinant human hyaluronidase (rHuPH20) safely enhanced subcutaneous hydration and drug delivery in hospice patients. This enzyme facilitated higher flow rates for fluids and medications, improving symptom management.

  • Flow rates and adverse events were monitored.

    • Main Results:

    • rHuPH20 facilitated subcutaneous hydration at rates up to 500 mL/hr.
    • Electrolyte replacement (potassium, magnesium) was achieved without incident.
    • Subcutaneous infusion of 9 medications was enhanced, overcoming standard flow rate limitations.

    • Further investigation into broader inpatient and outpatient applications is warranted.
