    Summary

    Thorotrast, a radioactive contrast agent, can increase the risk of liver cancer (hepatoma) decades after exposure. Suspect hepatoma in patients with abnormal liver tests and a history of Thorotrast injection.

    Background:

    • Elevated alkaline phosphatase was noted, indicative of liver dysfunction.
    • The findings link Thorotrast exposure to the development of hepatic malignancy.

    Implications:

    • Hepatic malignancy should be considered in patients with abnormal liver function tests, especially elevated alkaline phosphatase.
    • A history of Thorotrast administration is a critical risk factor for developing liver cancer.
    • This underscores the importance of long-term patient follow-up after exposure to radioactive contrast agents.
