We report an extremely rare case of multicentric malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor in a young man. Imaging and histology confirmed multiple tumors in the chest and inguinal regions, requiring surgical removal.

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Pathology
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are rare, aggressive neoplasms.
  • Multicentric origin of MPNSTs is exceptionally uncommon, posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

Observation:

  • A 25-year-old male presented with cough, dyspnea, and left lateral back pain.
  • Imaging revealed synchronous extrapleural masses in the left hemithorax and a left inguinal mass.

Findings:

  • Surgical resection of both thoracic and inguinal masses was performed.
  • Histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor of multicentric origin.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of comprehensive imaging and histological evaluation for rare tumor presentations.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Understanding multicentric MPNSTs is crucial for developing effective treatment strategies for this rare malignancy.
