Summary

Indomethacin (IND) significantly reduced coronary flow velocity in premature lambs, increasing cardiac workload. Recovery time correlated with the extent of this coronary flow reduction.

  • Measurements were taken before, during, and after intravenous IND administration (0.2 mg/kg).

  • A significant decrease in coronary average peak flow velocity was observed in all lambs.
  • The maximal reduction in coronary flow velocity was 52%, with a median of 26%.
  • Conclusions:

    • A bolus dose of indomethacin (IND) markedly decreased coronary flow velocity in premature lambs.
    • The recovery of coronary flow was directly proportional to the magnitude of the velocity reduction.
