Background:

  • Microtensile bond strength (MTBS) was tested 24 hours after definitive restoration, with data analyzed using two-way ANOVA.
  • Main Results:

    • All IDS groups and control groups exhibited comparable microtensile bond strengths exceeding 45 MPa.
    • Delayed dentin sealing (DDS) groups showed significantly lower bond strengths compared to IDS and control groups.
    • Optibond FL demonstrated higher bond strengths than SE Bond at 7 and 12 weeks, with IDS-7W and IDS-12W failures occurring between the IDS resin and overlaying composite.

    Conclusions:

    • Immediate dentin sealing (IDS) with either etch-and-rinse or self-etching DBAs yields microtensile bond strength comparable to immediate adhesive placement.
    • The bond strength achieved through IDS is not adversely affected by delays of up to 12 weeks before definitive restoration placement.
