Abstract:
The fundamental treatment plan of major depression is described in this chapter. The successful treatment is promoted by an initial assessment of the patient. Treatment consists of an acute phase (6-8 weeks), continuation phase (16-20 weeks) and maintenance phase treatment. In psychiatric management, it is important to evaluate the following components; (1) indication of hospitalization, (2) the safety and functional impairment of patient, (3) establishment of the good relationship between the patient and the doctor, (4) education to patients. The treatment algorithms of the mild and moderate depression and the severe depression have been shown in the tables.
