Exergaming in Older People Living with HIV Improves Balance, Mobility and Ameliorates Some Aspects of Frailty

  • The intervention group received computer and Internet training over four months.
  • Measures included physical functioning, life satisfaction, depression, loneliness, and self-control, assessed pre- and post-intervention. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with intervention participants.
  • Main Results:

    • The intervention group showed significant improvements in life satisfaction, depression, loneliness, and self-control.
    • The comparison group exhibited deterioration across all measured psychological and social factors.
    • Physical functioning did not significantly change in the intervention group.

    Conclusions:

    • Computer and Internet use positively impacts older adults' psychological well-being and sense of empowerment.
    • Digital literacy can enhance interpersonal interactions, cognitive function, and feelings of control and independence in seniors.
    • Interventions promoting digital skills are beneficial for improving the quality of life for the elderly.
