Better information systems are needed to help patients and clinicians integrate clinical research within everyday

Abstract:
Personal experience of severe otitis externa led me to search for evidence about the best management of earwax. Because systematic reviews made clear that there is substantial uncertainty about management, I looked for information about relevant, well-designed controlled trials in which I might be able to participate as a patient. My experiences illustrate why I believe better information systems are needed if clinical research is to become integrated in everyday clinical practice, for the benefit of both patients and clinicians.
