Background:

Observation:

  • A series of five women with severe, early-onset Rh isoimmunization were treated with intraperitoneal transfusions starting at 15-16 weeks gestation.
  • Transfusions were administered weekly until intravascular access was established for continued treatment.
  • Maternal anti-D immune globulin levels ranged from 24-244 IU initially.

Findings:

  • No fetus exhibited severe anemia at the time of the first intravascular transfusion, with the lowest hemoglobin recorded at 8.9 g/dL.
  • The treatment regimen resulted in no fetal losses.
