[Organ-sparing treatment of uveal melanomas: safety borders]

The history of organ-sparing treatment of uveal melanomas counts almost 40 years. During the last years, the development of new appliances and tools have widened possibilities provided by eye interventions, including both surgery and the application of various physical factors on eye tissues. However, when a malignant tumor, such as chorioid melanoma, is the case, there is a question of safety borders both for the patient (first of all) and the eye. On the basis of world experience and her own broad one, the author analyses the reasons for errors in treatment of such patients, and determines both efficiency and safety borders.
