Summary

Oyster trace metal bioaccumulation models generally do not require size-structured demography. This study found size had minimal impact on most metals, simplifying future ecological modeling efforts.

Conclusions:

  • The absence of significant size effects for most trace metals simplifies bioaccumulation modeling.
  • Size-structured demography is not essential for most oyster trace metal bioaccumulation models.
  • Oysters can serve as bioindicators for algal blooms, particularly for Iron (Fe) concentrations.
