Colonoscopy and colonoscopic polypectomy using side-viewing endoscope: a useful, effective and safe procedure

Background:

• Conventional forward-viewing colonoscopy may have limitations in visualizing and removing certain colorectal polyps.

Purpose of the Study:

• To evaluate the safety and efficacy of side-viewing colonoscopy and polypectomy for polyp removal.
• To assess the utility of this technique when standard forward-viewing methods are insufficient.

• A retrospective review of 12 patients (10 children, 2 adults) who underwent colonoscopy and polypectomy using a side-viewing endoscope between January 1998 and December 2005.
