Background:

  • Focal epithelial hyperplasia (FEH) is a rare oral mucosal condition linked to human papilloma virus (HPV).

  • The condition shows a racial predilection, being more common in Native Americans and Eskimos, and is associated with HPV serotypes 13 and 32.

Observation:

  • A case study of a 17-year-old female patient from Ecuador is presented.
  • The patient exhibited multiple papular lesions on both lips.
  • Clinical and histological examinations confirmed the diagnosis of focal epithelial hyperplasia.

Findings:

  • Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis was performed on the lesions.
  • HPV serotype 13 was detected in the patient's oral lesions.
