Abstract:
The CA 19-9 assay is not a sensitive examination that is useful for the diagnosis of a resectable pancreatic tumor. It is not a specific examination for the presence of a tumor or malignancy. It is not a good prognostic indicator. Its rate of prescription should be reduced by several orders of magnitude.
