Background:

  • Guidelines recommend analyzing 6 cm hair samples in two 3 cm segments for opiates, cocaine, cannabinoids, and amphetamines.
  • Many Local Medical Driving Licence Commissions (CML) did not adhere to segmental analysis, opting for single-segment testing.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess if non-adherence to segmental hair analysis guidelines impacts drug detection results.
  • To determine if procedural variations affect the evaluation of driving performance based on drug use.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of hair samples from driving license renewal applicants (2002-2006).
  • Group 1: Samples tested as single segments (below cut-off) re-analyzed segmentally.
