Purpose:
The goal of this investigation is to understand the knowledge, attitude and practice of the edentulous patients toward implant denture.
Methods:
235 patients were investigated. The data study was based on face-to-face interviews and the result was statistically analyzed by SPSS 11.5 software package.
Results:
70.21% of the interviewees had heard of implant denture, but 56.36% of them were proved to be mistaken. The first thing that they were worried about most was the function of the implant denture after restoration (34.55%) and they expected most eagerly (54.55%) to use the implant as nature teeth. 57.87% of the interviewees psychologically thought the implant was the most ideal restoration. Whether the edentulous patients had ever had traditional denture(P<0.05), whether they were satisfied with the denture(P<0.05) and the sources of knowledge on the implant(P<0.05) had significant on the acceptance of implant denture. Expense played an important role in the acceptance(P<0.05).
Conclusions:
The edentulous patients have some misunderstanding about implant. Several factors affected the psychological acceptance. Supported by Academic Leader Fund from Fujian Medical University (Grant No.2006003).
