Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the factors contributing to the use of atypical antipsychotics in pediatric patients.
  • To examine the roles of race, gender, age, and diagnosis in atypical antipsychotic prescription patterns.

  • Analysis of an anonymous clinical mental health database from Duke University Medical Center (1999-2005).
  • Inclusion of 3,268 patients (under 18) with 7,701 visits.
  • Extraction of demographic data (age, gender, race) and diagnosis as predictors for atypical antipsychotic use.

  • Males and older children showed higher likelihood of atypical antipsychotic use.
