Main Results:

  • Anatomic resection demonstrated significantly higher 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival rates (P=0.032).
  • Disease-free survival rates were also significantly better with anatomic resection at 1, 3, and 5 years (P=0.003).
  • Multivariate analysis identified anatomic resection as an independent favorable factor for disease-free survival.

Conclusions:

  • Anatomic resection is superior to non-anatomic resection for single small HCCs.
  • The findings support the use of anatomic resection for improved disease-free survival in HCC patients.
