Summary

Regional intravenous guanethidine blocks offer effective treatment for algodystrophy, particularly after other therapies fail. This study found positive results in 71% of patients, with good tolerance overall.

Background:

  • Algodystrophy, also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), is a debilitating condition.
  • Previous treatments for algodystrophy often have limited success.
  • Regional intravenous guanethidine blocks are an alternative therapeutic option.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of regional intravenous guanethidine blocks for treating algodystrophy.
  • To determine factors influencing treatment outcomes and tolerance.

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective analysis of 513 regional intravenous guanethidine blocks performed on 125 patients with algodystrophy.
  • Patients were divided into two groups: Group I (120 patients with prior treatment failure) and Group II (5 treatment-naive patients).
