Summary

Erythema ab igne, a skin condition, can result from prolonged laptop use on the thighs. Discontinuing direct laptop contact led to the resolution of this heat-induced rash.

Observation:

  • A 40-year-old woman presented with an asymptomatic reticulated rash on her thighs.
  • Initial extensive workup was performed to determine the cause of the eruption.

Findings:

  • The patient was diagnosed with erythema ab igne.
  • The condition was directly attributed to the prolonged, direct use of a laptop computer on her thighs.
  • The rash resolved completely within months of ceasing direct laptop contact.

Implications:

  • Laptop-induced erythema ab igne highlights the need to consider modern heat sources in differential diagnoses.
