Nursing Interventions II: Selecting and Classifying the Nursing Interventions01:29

Nursing Interventions II: Selecting and Classifying the Nursing Interventions

Creating and executing a nursing diagnosis helps nurses plan care and guide patient, family, and community interventions. They are developed based on a patient's physical evaluation and support measuring the outcomes. It is not recommended to select random interventions throughout the planning process. Instead, consider the following six essential factors when choosing interventions:
Healthcare Associated Infections II: Preventive Measures01:22

Healthcare Associated Infections II: Preventive Measures

Essential infection prevention measures are based on the knowledge of the infection chain, the modes of transmission in healthcare settings, and the use of the best practices in all healthcare settings. Compulsory public reporting of healthcare-associated infection rates is needed to allow individuals and the community to make informed choices regarding selecting a healthcare facility.
The best practices for preventing healthcare-associated infections include hand hygiene, patient risk...
Nursing Implementation01:15

Nursing Implementation

Implementation is the execution of the nursing care plan developed during the planning phase.
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.
Guidelines For Measuring Vital Signs01:19

Guidelines For Measuring Vital Signs

Following these guidelines can help nurses accurately measure vital signs, assess changes in patient conditions, and provide timely treatment when necessary. Adhering closely to the guidelines ensures the accuracy and reliability of the results.
Before taking a patient's vital signs, a nurse would consider and assess the patient's comfort level and ensure appropriate equipment is available.

Nurses bear specific legal responsibilities under several federal statutes, including:

Standards of Care I

Federal statutes profoundly impact nursing practice, providing critical guidelines to ensure patient care is equitable, accessible, and of the highest quality. The following laws address distinct aspects of healthcare provision and patient rights:

Summary

Neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) show varied application of developmental care practices. Parental involvement was key, though environmental control and individualized care were appreciated more than implemented.

Area of Science:

  • Neonatal care
  • Developmental psychology
  • Pediatric nursing

Background:

  • Neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) present developmental stressors.
  • Existing research prioritizes medical aspects over the developmental ecology of NICUs.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a tool measuring developmentally appropriate practice in NICU environments.
  • To assess the implementation of this tool in Israel.

Main Methods:

  • A questionnaire was administered to 76 senior staff members across 24 NICUs in Israel.
  • The tool, the developmentally appropriate neonatal intensive-care practice (DANIP) index, assesses parental involvement, environmental control, and individualized care.

Main Results:

  • Significant variability exists in applying developmentally appropriate practices.
  • NICUs with larger multidisciplinary teams scored higher.
  • Individualized care correlated positively with environmental control (r=0.53) and parental involvement (r=0.76).
  • Parental involvement emerged as the most salient domain, despite staff valuing environmental control and individualized care more than their application.

Conclusions:

  • The DANIP index serves as a valuable foundation for future comparative research on NICU developmental care.
