[The outcome of recurrent patellar dislocation treatment with the Insall procedure]

The choice of appropriate treatment of recurrent lateral patellar dislocation (RPD) is the source of constant debate because of unacceptable treatment outcomes. The aim of this study is to assess the outcome of operative treatment of RPD with the use of proximal realignment method by Insall. 94 patients (109 knees), who were present at the final examination, after the average follow-up 6.8 years, and met the inclusion criteria, were operated with the Insall procedure due to RPD. There were 63.3% of excellent and good results and 11% poor in the final outcome score. The outcomes of treatment of RPD with the use of Insall procedure are comparable with the published outcomes of other procedures. It is an important surgical method in treatment in immature patients. The advantage of this method is that it does not cause serious complications, however, the disadvantage is an unacceptably high rate of recurrent dislocations.
