Oscillations In An LC Circuit01:30

Oscillations In An LC Circuit

An idealized LC circuit of zero resistance can oscillate without any source of emf by shifting the energy stored in the circuit between the electric and magnetic fields. In such an LC circuit, if the capacitor contains a charge q before the switch is closed, then all the energy of the circuit is initially stored in the electric field of the capacitor. This energy is given by

Summary

Walk-off effects in optical parametric oscillators create dynamic pattern selection, forming kink arrays and dark soliton stripes for positive signal detunings. This study theoretically predicts the pattern wavelength, matching numerical results.

Area of Science:

  • Nonlinear Optics
  • Laser Physics
  • Optical Pattern Formation

Background:

  • Optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) are crucial for generating tunable laser light.
  • Understanding pattern selection mechanisms in OPOs is key to controlling their output.
  • The phenomenon of walk-off, where interacting beams separate spatially, can influence OPO behavior.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To theoretically investigate the impact of walk-off on pattern selection in optical parametric oscillators.
  • To explore the formation of spatial structures under positive signal detunings.
  • To analyze the nature of the generated patterns and predict their characteristics.

Main Methods:

  • Theoretical examination of the effects of walk-off on OPO dynamics.
  • Analysis of pattern formation mechanisms for positive signal detunings.
  • Development of theoretical predictions for the generated pattern wavelength.

Main Results:

  • A dynamic mechanism enables pattern formation even with positive signal detunings.
  • Generated patterns are periodic arrays of kinks, separating regions of alternating stable states.
  • These structures can be interpreted as trains of dark soliton stripes due to the opposite signs of the two solutions.
  • Theoretical predictions for the pattern wavelength show excellent agreement with numerical solutions.

Conclusions:

  • Walk-off plays a significant role in dynamic pattern selection in OPOs.
  • The formation of kink arrays and dark soliton stripes is a predictable outcome under specific detuning conditions.
  • Theoretical models accurately predict the wavelength of these complex optical patterns.
