Bartonella henselae infects human erythrocytes

Bartonella henselae, a cause of cat scratch disease, invades human red blood cells (RBCs). This study observed B. henselae adhering to and entering RBCs, suggesting erythrocytes may be a primary target in Bartonella infections.
