Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the safety and feasibility of applying radiosurgical technology to renal tumors.
  • To assess acute and long-term toxicities associated with radiosurgery for kidney cancer.
  • To determine the preliminary efficacy of radiosurgery in managing renal lesions.

Main Methods:

  • Three patients with renal tumors underwent radiosurgical treatment.
  • A radiation dose of 4 Gy per fraction for 4 fractions was administered.
  • Patients were monitored for adverse events and underwent nephrectomy with histologic evaluation 8 weeks post-treatment.
  • Long-term follow-up was conducted for a minimum of 1 year.

Main Results:

  • All patients tolerated the radiosurgery treatment without adverse events or acute toxicities.
  • No changes in renal function or evidence of acute radiation injury were observed.
  • Histologic evaluation post-treatment showed tumor necrosis in one patient; viable tumor was present in the other two.
