Environment and expression of the thrifty genes

Abstract:
The expression of the "thrifty genes" or the genetic single nucleotide polymorphism is a direct property of how environmental factors influence diet and physical activities leading to altered physical and therefore, health attributes. These altered attributes have been expressed in disease processes called non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Migration, urbanization, modernization, commercialization, imperialization and alteration are some of the transition agents contributing to the changes in lifestyle necessary for the expression of these "thrifty genes." These "thrifty genes" have mutated during the time of famine and now continues express themselves during the time of plenty. This paper attempts to discuss some of these issues and draw conclusion of how to prevent the expressions of these genes.
