Background:
We report 3 cases of congenital corneal staphyloma.
Methods:
Two cases were cosmetically treated by evisceration and primary implant insertion and 1 case spontaneously converted to phthisis bulbi.
Results:
Placement of a cosmetic prosthesis improved the external appearances in the first 2 cases. No complications after operation were noted. The final outcome in the third patient was phthisis bulbi, which occurred spontaneously at 5 years of age in the absence of any surgery.
Interpretation:
Evisceration with primary implant insertion is an appropriate treatment modality for congenital corneal staphyloma.
