The effects of lyophilized homograft amniotic membrane on wound healing on rabbits
Abstract:
This study was carried out on 15 rabbits in order to determine the effects of lyophilized homograft amniotic membrane on the healing of mucosal surfaces. Two wounds of 1 cm in diameter were made in the sublingual mucosa of each rabbit; one was covered with amniotic membrane while the other was left uncovered as a control. The wounds were examined at intervals of 2 or 3 days for approximately two weeks and biopsies were taken. Our results show that amniotic membrane not only facilitated wound healing, but also induced epithelialization.
