Background:

Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is susceptible to spatial distortions.
These distortions arise from magnetic susceptibility variations, particularly at air/tissue interfaces.
Accurate geometric measurements in MR imaging are crucial for applications such as stereotaxic surgery.

To develop and validate a novel in vivo method for correcting spatial distortions in MR images.
To quantify the effectiveness of the correction method by comparing MR images to computed tomography (CT) images.
