Main Results:

  • A novel ovoid to rod-shaped, Gram-negative bacterium, strain JA136(T), was isolated.
  • Strain JA136(T) is phototrophic, motile, and tolerates up to 4% NaCl.
  • Phylogenetic analysis placed strain JA136(T) within the Allochromatium genus, distinct from known species.
  • Highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity was observed with Allochromatium vinosum (97.0%).

Conclusions:

  • Strain JA136(T) represents a novel species, Allochromatium renukae sp. nov.
  • This discovery expands the known biodiversity of purple sulfur bacteria.
  • Allochromatium renukae contributes to the understanding of Gammaproteobacteria evolution.
