Summary

Maternal urinoma, or urine leakage around the kidney, can occur during pregnancy. Prompt diagnosis with imaging and Double-J stent placement offers effective symptom relief and successful delivery.

  • Maternal urinoma, characterized by peripelvic urine extravasation, is a rare complication during pregnancy.
  • Etiologies include urinary trauma or obstruction, with limited data on its occurrence in pregnant patients.

Observation:

  • A primigravida at 21 weeks gestation presented with worsening right flank pain and hydronephrosis.
  • Serial ultrasonography revealed a significant perinephric fluid collection, prompting intervention.

Findings:

  • A Double-J stent placement led to rapid symptom improvement.
  • Review of six cases showed maternal urinoma predominantly in the second half of pregnancy, presenting with flank pain.

Implications:

  • Maternal urinoma is a critical differential diagnosis for flank pain in pregnancy.
  • Double-J stent placement is the primary management strategy.
  • Serial ultrasonography and close monitoring are crucial for timely diagnosis and management.
