Area of Science:

  • Dental Materials Science
  • Prosthodontics

Background:

  • Denture relining is crucial for maintaining prosthesis fit and function.
  • Dimensional stability of reline resins is essential to prevent ill-fitting dentures.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the dimensional changes of simulated denture bases after relining with Lucitone 199 (long-cure), Triad resin, and Accelar 20 resin.

Main Methods:

  • Thirty simulated denture bases were fabricated and relined with one of the three tested resins.
  • Dimensional changes were measured using a traveling microscope before and after processing.

Main Results:

  • All relined denture bases exhibited significant dimensional shrinkage.
  • Triad resin relined bases showed significantly greater dimensional change compared to Lucitone 199 and Accelar 20 resins.

Related Experiment Videos

Conclusions:

  • While Triad resin demonstrated higher shrinkage, the dimensional changes observed in this study are likely clinically insignificant.
  • Further research may explore long-term dimensional stability and clinical performance of these reline resins.
