Comparing the old and new generation SELDI-TOF MS: implications for serum protein profiling

The new PCS 4000 series Surface-Enhanced Laser Desorption/Ionization-Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (SELDI-TOF MS) instrument showed no improvement over the PBS-IIc for crude serum analysis. However, it demonstrated superior performance in detecting low-abundant proteins after serum fractionation.
